FinTrack Redesign
How we helped FinTrack rebuild its personal-finance app around clarity and trust — lifting weekly retention by 43%.
The challenge
FinTrack’s original app had grown feature by feature until budgeting felt like bookkeeping. Users told us they opened it with a sense of dread: balances were buried, categories multiplied, and every insight took three taps too many.
The team needed a redesign that made money understandable at a glance — without alienating the power users who lived in the details.
Our process
We ran a four-track process over ten weeks: stakeholder and customer interviews, a diary study with fourteen budgeters, competitive teardowns, and weekly co-design sessions with the FinTrack team.
Every decision traces back to something we heard, observed or measured — the artefacts are collected in the design process gallery.
The solution
The new FinTrack opens on a single answer — “How am I doing this month?” — backed by a calm, glanceable dashboard. We rebuilt navigation around three verbs (track, plan, grow) and introduced a spending-pulse widget for daily check-ins.
A design system of 40+ components now lets the team ship fast without drifting.
Outcomes
Weekly retention rose 43% within two months of launch, support tickets about “finding things” dropped by half, and the App Store rating climbed from 3.6 to 4.7. FinTrack now onboards a new user in under 90 seconds.
